Gardaí warn publicans : Following the failure last year of Dublin 15 publicans and off-licensees to take part in a staff training programme to counteract underage drinking, a local Garda Inspector has warned them that gardaí will begin a campaign next month to combat the problem in Dublin 15.

Death on a canal bank: The recent murder of 12 year old Michaela Davis near her home in Porterstown has brought grief and devastation to two local families.


Local projects being merged :Despite fears that local input to the decision-making process will be greatly reduced, it appears that the Government-led initiative to merge the Blanchardstown Area Partnership (BAP) and Dublin 15’s four Community Development Projects (CDPs) will go ahead from January 1st 2011.

Bus service saved : There has been a general welcome to the news that Dublin Bus has agreed to maintain it’s off peak 38A service between Damastown and Hawkins Street in the city centre.

Connolly chaplain case to be heard again : A €38,000 slander case involving two Connolly Hospital chaplains will have to be heard again after the presiding judge was obliged to withdraw from the case on the third and final day.

Local schools badly hit by education cuts : One of the biggest casualties of the current recession is undoubtedly the education system where swingeing cuts are the order of the day. These cuts are affecting Dublin 15 more than most parts of the country because of the age profile of the area.


New heritage season unveiled : The local history of an area is a subject that fascinates a lot of people. Learning about the significance of local sites and placing them in their appropriate historical context is a subject that helps us to unravel our past and go some of the way to explaining the society we find ourselves in today.


Suicide prevention : Suicidal behaviour continues to be a significant public health issue in Ireland. The latest figures for death by suicide from the Central Statistics Office show a small ongoing reduction in the past few years.
 
Calling all bands : As any teenager today will tell you, Dublin 15 is currently awash with musical talent. There are rock bands, soul bands, hip-hop bands, garage bands – virtually every kind of music is catered for and events such as the local bands nights at Draíocht are testament to the popularity of forming a group.
Playground opened : A playground is something usually associated with a local authority or similar public body, so when the management of Castleknock Hotel decided to develop a children’s playground in the grounds of the hotel, a few people were surprised at the decision.
 Amnesty in Laurel Lodge : Amnesty International, the largest human rights organisation in the world, has more than 2.8 million members in 150 countries. In Ireland alone there are over 15,000 members and supporters.
