September jazz at Farmleigh : Farmleigh’s summer schedule draws to a mellow close this month with a series of top-class gigs by some of Ireland’s finest jazz musicians.

The power of a big jazz band: In contrast to the small and intimate performances being put on at Farmleigh during the month of September, Draíocht introduces the five saxes, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass, drums and guitar that comprise the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra.

In Colour: Back with a bang for the new season, Draíocht will showcase a major new exhibition, In Colour, in their ground floor gallery this autumn.

Another gem from Gúna Nua: Many regular Draiocht patrons will remember Little Gem, the bittersweet comedy about the lives of three Dublin women that was so successfully received on its first visit here in 2008 that it returned again last year.

The Colleen Bawn: Hardress Cregan and his mother have fallen on hard times. His mother tries to persuade Hardress to marry the wealthy Anne Chute and he agrees, although he is already secretly married to Eily O'Connor, a beautiful but poor fair-haired girl (cailín bán or colleen bawn) who has many admirers including the roguish Myles-na-Coppaleen.

Music in the community: It is hardly surprising that Castleknock School of Music is held in such high esteem in Dublin 15. A grand total of 305 students sat Royal Irish Academy of Music exams this summer in theory, piano, electronic keyboard, flute, clarinet, violin, and voice.

Showcasing the over 50s: Pick up any fashion magazine today and, flicking through the pages, there will be one salient fact that is so blindingly obvious that it practically goes unnoticed – all the models are young.

Discussing film: You would have thought that with a nine screen UCI cinema in the Blanchardstown Town Centre, film would be the one art that would be adequately served in the Dublin 15 area.
And Briefly..... : A roundup of Arts events in Dublin 15 and beyond.
